コルビュジエの見方に変化
国立西洋美術館で開催中のコルビュジエ展にて、一番最後の展示に、エスプリヌーヴォー館完成の頃か、エスプリヌーボーの最終号に掲載した、たぶん、コルビュジエの言葉だと、もう一度行って確かないと、
「人は自然の混沌な形は見えない、見ることができない。しかし、大海の水平線や林立する岩などの単純な形には魅力を感じ、すぐに見入るし、わかりやすいから、わかる」
というような趣旨の文章があり、ちょっと驚愕した。
コルビュジエの初期の作品、例えば、サヴォア邸は近代建築の五原則の1つにもある、水平連続窓が示すように、水平垂直の線が強調された外観をしており、室内に入ると、浴室の寝椅子に見られるような自然から発想したような自由曲線の形態が現れてくる。
ピュリスムの絵画に表現されている複数のモチーフが重なった輪郭線が外観に現れて、モチーフの形態自体が、それが自然の中にあるものをモチーフとして、内部の至るところに現れてくるのだと、今まで考えていたけれど、
外観の水平垂直の線は、大海の水平線や林立する岩から発想されていた、すなわち、コルビュジエは後に「人間と自然との調和」をはかりはじめたのではなくて、初期から「人間と自然との調和」をめざしていたことになるのではないか。
これは自分の中では大発見であり、コルビュジエへの見方、建築の造形を考える上での思考のめぐり方にかなり影響を与えることになるかもしれない。
