階段は権威的
住宅設計の中で上下階の移動手段はひとつの見せ場で、階段を吹抜けとし、光や風の通り道とした。
ただ、できれば階段を無くしたいといつも思っている。平屋が良いという訳では無くて、勝手なイメージだが、階段は権威的な匂いがするから。
階段にはメタファーとして階層を感じる。
時の権力者が階段や段の上から声高に語る、階段の上から主役が登場するなどのイメージがそうさせているのかもしれないが、階段は扱い方によって昇降の機能とは別に意味や役割を持たせることができる。
住宅には権威的な匂いは必要無いから、階段はひとつの見せ場だが、いつもはデザイン的な工夫はするが、目立たないというか、威張らないといか、階段自体が持つ元々の「繋ぐ」という機能を強調するようにしてデザインをしている。
ただ、時には階段を権威的に扱いたくなる。それは階段を昇降する様を主役にして空間を構成する時、その階段があるからその空間が成り立つ時、階段があるからその空間がその住宅がまとまる時。
それがクライアントの話からイメージできた時。
