スケールの曖昧さの良さ

スケールという言葉は実に曖昧である。スケールの良し悪しという価値判断があり、スケールという言葉は本来数値に置き換えられるはずだが、良いスケール、悪いスケールに数値の基準はなく、感覚的なのだ。

誰か、例えば、高名な建築家が「スケールが良い」と言えば、そういうものかと納得せざるを得ないが、感覚的なスケールの良し悪しは確かに存在するので余計に困るし、感覚的なのでスケールの良し悪しを言葉で表現するのも難しい。

スケールの曖昧さを良いことと捉えるならば、建築を見る人、体験する人が感覚的に違う受け取り方をするようにできる可能性があることかもしれない。スケールが感覚的なものであるが故に人それぞれ固有のスケール感覚を持ち合わせていると考えられるので、建築に様々なスケールを仕込むことにより、人によって違う建築の見え方、感じ方ができるようになる。

"Good scale ambiguity"

The word scale is really ambiguous. There is a value judgment that the scale is good or bad, and the word scale should be replaced with a numerical value, but there is no numerical standard for good scale and bad scale, and it is sensuous.

If someone, for example, a well-known architect says "the scale is good", I have to convince them that it is, but there are certainly good and bad sensuous scales, so it is more troublesome and sensuous. Therefore, it is difficult to express the quality of scale in words.

If we take the ambiguity of scale as a good thing, it may be possible to make people who see and experience architecture perceive it differently. Since the scale is sensuous, it is thought that each person has a unique sense of scale, so by adding various scales to the architecture, it becomes possible for each person to see and feel the architecture differently. ..
