素材からの連想をデザイン
素材から連想する建築もあるだろう。例えば、木組みを見たら和風の建築や和に関係する空間や建築を連想する。素材に意味がついている。あと、素材の見せ方や素材感にも意味がついていて連想を助けている。それは素材を扱う時に考慮しなければいけないところであり、別の考え方をすれば、素材の扱い方を変えればついている意味を操作できることでもある。
木組みは和風という素直な連想を利用することが重要な時もあるが、少し素材の扱いを変えて、木組みに和風以外の意味を付け加えた時にどうなかるかを考えるのもデザインの範疇である。
