最大のヴォリュームを得ようと計画することがよくある。制限がある中でギリギリまで大きくする。事業性が高い建築、例えば、集合住宅では当たり前に行うことである。その敷地に対してどれだけのヴォリュームのものが建つかは算定ソフトでも出すことができ、数値上の話で終始する。

ただ、他に可能性はないのかと思った。最大のヴォリュームがもたらすものは事業性の高さだけだろうか。ヴォリュームというものに注目すれば、それだけで人に影響を与えることもある。どのようなヴォリュームがどのように人に影響を与えるのか。ただ、それではまだチャンクが大きい。もう少しチャンクダウンして、例えば、ヴォリュームの構成や配列が人の感性に影響を与えるか、もし影響を与えるならば結果的に得られる感性が人のアクティビティに変化もたらすか、などまだまだヴォリュームという言葉から派生することはありそうだと考えている。

人の感性が極端に振れるような影響を与えたいと思うから建築のデザインをしているので、極端に振れるような可能性が無いことはなるべくやりたくはない。感性が振れるとはどういう状態なのか、逆に全く振れないとはどういう状態なのか、さらには感性が全く振れない状態は感性が無い状態なのかに興味がある。ここでは感性を振り子のようだと考えているので、感性が振れる振れないと表現しているが、それ自体が違う可能性もある。振り子だと一定の円弧上を移動するが、もしかしたら点から点への移動かもしれない。あるいは、円弧移動と点移動のミックスも考えられる。感性についてはまだまだわからないことが多い。

Here, I think that the sensibility is like a pendulum, so I express that the sensibility does not swing, but it may be different in itself. A pendulum moves on a certain arc, but it may move from point to point. Alternatively, a mix of arc movement and point movement can be considered. There are still many things I don't understand about sensibilities.

ヴォリュームに対して大小の尺度で考えるのが建築では当たり前である。建築は人を内包することで定義されるようなものだから、人がどのように内包されるかの尺度のひとつがヴォリュームで、スケール感という言葉があるように大小をみる。

ヴォリュームの大小は当然数値に影響を与えるが、それだけではなく人の感性にも影響を与える。建築に限らず人の尺度を超えるヴォリュームのものを目の前にした時、人はそのヴォリュームに対して感性が動く。その時の感性は畏敬の念かもしれないし、崇高かもしれないし、驚きかもしれない。自身のヴォリュームとの差を埋める何かを感性でつくり出す。

The sensibility at that time may be awe, sublime, or surprise. Create something with sensibility that fills the gap with your own volume.

プロジェクトをはじめる時、最初に探すのはわからないこと。全てをわかる範囲内でプロジェクトをおさめることは勿論可能だが、それでは今までの焼き増しに過ぎず、焼き増しの段階で全てが古いもので価値が半減している。また、自身のモチベーションも上がらない。

わからないということは自身にとっては新しいことであり、毎回何か新しい要素が入り込むから創意工夫も生まれる。

わからないことをわかるようにすることで新しいことが生まれるならば、それがクリエイティブであり、わからないこと探しがクリエイティブのはじまりになる。

"Beginning of creative"

When you start a project, you don't know what to look for first. Of course, it is possible to complete the project within the range where everything can be understood, but that is just a reprint so far, and at the reprint stage, everything is old and the value is halved. Also, my motivation does not rise.

Not knowing is new to me, and every time something new is introduced, ingenuity is born.

If something new is born by making people understand what they don't understand, it is creative, and searching for something they don't understand is the beginning of creative.

綺麗な模様が並んだ中に見過ごしてしまそうな位に小さな点を見つけた時に、それを綺麗な模様を乱す点と思うか、綺麗な模様にアクセントを加えてくれる点と思うかで模様の浮かび上がり方が違うと思った。

完全さを求めるならば綺麗な模様を乱す点になるだろうが、不完全さを許容するならばアクセントになり得る。

どちらが良いかでは無いと思うが、不完全さを許容する方が外からの要因によって変化する可能性があり不確実性が増す。不確実性は捉えようによっては不安要素だが、未知なことを含んだ伸び代として魅力的でもある。

"Unknown charm"

I don't think which is better, but allowing imperfections can change due to external factors and increases uncertainty. Uncertainty is an anxiety factor depending on how you capture it, but it is also attractive as a growth margin that includes unknown things.

先日、ミニクーパーを車検に出した。乗り始めて27年、外装の輝きが無くなってきたので、そろそろボディ磨きをしてみてはの誘いに一旦は乗ってみたのだが、一晩考えて、27年間の垢が落ちてピカピカのボディになったとしてそれが良いのかと、新車当時の輝きより27年経った今のくすみの方が価値あるだろうと思い、ボディ磨きは取りやめてワックス掛けだけしたら余計に外装のくすみがマダラで浮かび上がったなと。

年月は無用なあがきと変な納得を生むけれど、また次の機会まで楽しみができたなとも思う。
