物として建築を
本当に小さい建築を、今までで一番小さいかもしれない建築を考えている。建築の大小を気にすることはほとんどなかったが、これだけ小さく、単一用途で、不特定多数が利用するとなると、「小さい」ということを建築デザインで考えてみる面白さを感じた。
小さいと全体的に把握がしやすいので、物としての建築を前面に押し出したくなる。それは形を幾何学にし、素材を即物的にして、建築が持っている物としての魅力を見せたいと考えることである。
それは設計していても楽しい。やはり建築は物としてどうあるべきかを問わないと単に容れ物で終わってしまうだろう。
"Architecture as a thing"
I'm thinking of a really small building, one that may be the smallest ever. I didn't really care about the size of the building, but when it was so small and used by an unspecified number of people for a single purpose, I found it interesting to think about "small" in architectural design.
If it is small, it is easy to grasp as a whole, so you want to push the architecture as a thing to the front. It is to make the shape geometric, to make the material real, and to show the attractiveness of architecture as an object.
It's fun to design. After all, architecture will simply end up as a container regardless of what it should be as a thing.
