当たり前
よく受け入れてくれるものだ、何の実績もないし、変なスケッチを持参したのに、嫌な顔ひとつせずによく付き合ってくれるものだ。面倒くさいとは思わないのだろうか、むしろ面倒くさい方へどんどん進んで行くのだけれど。そんな人がたくさんいるようには思えないけれど、こんな面倒くさいことを言う人に皆さん慣れているのかなと輪島にいる間は思っていたけれど、たぶん、そういうことではないのだろうと後で思った。
持っている技術が相当高いから、面倒とか、くさいとか、という感情や思いがそもそも湧き上がって来ない、精神的に左右されない。当たり前にできるから、当たり前にやるだけなのだろう。
確かに、非対称の形だから、難易度が高く、相当悩みながら答えを出しているけど、短時間に簡潔にできることとできないことを選り分けて、できる中から最善の策を出してくる感じ。だから、打合せをしていて本当に気持ちがいい。本当の職人と話をしていると、自分が考えたことが段々と実際の形になっていく実感が得られ楽しくて仕方がない。
椀木地屋さんでは断念したデザインですが、次に塗師のご主人が連れて行ってくれた所は朴(ほう)木地屋さん。朴(ほう)木地屋さんは仏具などをつくる木地屋で、御膳の猫足などのように複雑な形をつくる時に請われる木地屋さん、もしここで制作できなければ、この非対称の形をあきらめるしかない所だったかもしれないと後で思ったが、椀木地屋から朴木地屋までの移動の車中での塗師のご主人からは、何とかなるだろうという勘が働いているのか、楽観的な雰囲気が伝わってきたので、こちらはもう任せるしかないこともあり、私も能天気に車窓の景色を眺めていた。
10分位で朴木地屋さんに着くと、そこにはたくさんの工作機械が置いてあり、中には大型のものまで、うちの会社にも作業場があって、そこにも工作機械があり、達磨ストーブもあるので、見慣れた風景と似た雰囲気に親近感がわいた。帰る時に聞いた話だが、朴木地屋をする人は少なく、理由はこの工作機械を揃えるだけでもかなりの費用がかかり、尚かつ、工作機械を扱うので危険を伴うからだとか。この朴木地屋さんは代々昔から引き継いで営んでいるとのことで、ここの朴木地職人の方はたぶん私より若かった。
輪島塗の制作工程をとりあえず一通りは頭に入れて来たけれども、それぞれの工程での制作風景は当然見たいことがないから、それでも椀木地屋さんの制作の仕方は何となく想像できる範疇だったので、こうできないか、ああできないかと思いを巡らすことはできたが、朴木地屋さんについては全くどうするのかがわからず、ただ持参したスケッチを見せて、どうしたらこの非対称の形をつくり出すことができるのかを朴木地職人の方に考えてもらうしかなかった。

If you are talking to a real craftsman, you will be able to have a sense of realizing that what you thought is gradually becoming an actual shape is fun.
