つながりのデザイン
つながりがデザインの要素になっているものはいいなと素直に思ってしまう。
1つでは意味を成さないが、つながることによって、何ものかの意味が出てきて、そのつなっがている様が装飾であり、そのつながりが機能を担う。そして、そのつながり自体は自由、どのようにでもつながりは変化する。何もはじめに決められてはいないが、つながりをデザインすれば、何にでも変化する。
イメージとして、デザインされたものは、そのもの自体の形に特徴があり、見た目で瞬時にデザインを伝えてくる単純なものが多い。わざわざデザインするのだからか、デザイン自体が前面に出てくるように、そこで優劣がわかるように、絶対的で自律的で、変化を許さないものばかり。
デザインされたものの面白さ、見る楽しさ、所有する喜びは、絶対的で自律的で、変化を許さない様から生まれると言っても過言ではないので、唯一無二の存在のデザインになればなるほど、その傾向は強いように思う。
イタリア文化会館で開催中のアンジェロ・マンジャロッティ「構築のリアリティ」展へ、マンジャロッティは好きなデザイナーで、建築も手掛けるので興味があり、『Secticon（セクティコン）』という置き時計も所有しているくらい。
『Giogali（ジョーガリ）』という小さなガラスのオーナメントが規則的につながって作品になっていた。1つの単体では何も意味を成さないが、規則性を持たせたつながりをデザインすることによって照明器具やスクリーンになる、簡単に行ってしまえば、ガラスのパーツである。
そのつながり方は小さなガラスのパーツを上下に引っ掛けるだけ、その引っ掛け方をデザインしている。とても単純なことだが、そこに重力があってはじめて成り立つデザインであり、単純なことの積み重ねが、いろいろなものに変化する可能性があるという複雑性も同時に兼ね備えている。
小さなガラスのパーツは単体で存在し自律していて、ある規則性を与えると他律的に何かになり、その何かはそれで自律して存在するようになるが、またそこに違った規則性を他律的に加えることもできる。
ガラスでできているから、照明器具にすれば、昼と夜、電球の種類によっても、スクリーンにしても、昼と夜、ガラスのある所と無い所の透け具合など、加わる他律によってさらに変化する。
自律と他律を行ったり来たりできるつながりを、マンジャロッティはデザインしたのだろう、モノは、人間のように、細胞というパーツの寄せ集めであり、パーツのつながり方をデザインするだけでよいと、それはマンジャロッティの建築からも感じられた。
