融合の果て
コルビュジエの初期の作品では、ピュリスムの絵画の特徴であるモチーフの重なりの要素は無いように思えるが、後期の作品、特に、ラトゥーレット修道院では重なりの要素を感じる。
一言では、一見しただけでは理解し難い建築だった。その建築を理解しようとする姿勢もどうかと思うが、あまりにもわかりそうでわかりにくい、でも、何かわかりたい衝動みたいなものがあり、それはラトゥーレット修道院に宿泊したからだろうか、あの暗闇の恐怖を経験したからだろうか、朝になり全体像が見えた時のあちらこちら問いかけてくる、投げかけてくるデザインの波に押し流されないように必死で抵抗しつつ、その一つ一つを全てを理解しようとしていた。
今から振り返れば、たくさんの重なりが、それが絵画のモチーフのような様々な造形が、様々な要素が見え隠れしながら、今そこにいる自分の立ち位置によって受ける印象が違うくらいに複雑な建築空間だった。
それがモダニズム建築とピュリスム絵画の融合の果てだと考えると妙に納得してしまう。
