建築性と諸条件のバランスは７：３
建築が建築として成立するためには、建築性と諸条件を満たすことが必要になる。建築性とは、歴史的蓄積や時代背景などの流行や社会的動向、哲学的思考、審美的見方などであり、諸条件とは、建主の要望や予算、法規、敷地や周辺環境の状況などである。
建築が事業として成立するためだけならば、諸条件を満たすだけでいいが、それではただの建物であり、建物を建築にまで昇華させるには建築性が必要になり、さらには、建築性と諸条件のバランスが重要になる。
それでは、建築性と諸条件のバランスをどのように取ればいいのか。その目安は割合で考え、建築性を7、諸条件を3とする。
ではどうして、その割合なのか。建築性を諸条件に比べて多くする理由は、諸条件の良し悪しに建築の優劣が左右されないためである。どうしても諸条件には良し悪しがでる。予算の有る無し、環境の良し悪しなどは仕方がないことであり、それを後から変えることはなかなか難しい。
しかし建築性は、極端な言い方をすれば、どうにでもなる。どのような建築性を持って建築と向き合うかは設計者しだいであるから、その建築性の割合を多くしておいた方がいい建築ができる可能性が高くなり、諸条件の良し悪しを上手く利用することもできるようになる。
