小さな所をクローズアップさせて全体をイメージさせるやり方は、部分と全体の関係性で考えるとわかりやすい。部分と全体に関連があるのは当たり前だが、その関係性が部分から全体へと連動していくのか、部分と全体が相似の関係なのかによってちがう。部分から全体へと連動していく場合は、部分と全体が両方とも必要であり、不可分の関係である。それに対して相似の関係は部分が無くて、極端な話、全体が無くても成り立つ。ならば、相似の関係で考えればフレキシブルに部分と全体を考えることができる。

"Part and whole"

わかりやすいことは何と建築をつまらなくすることか。

小さい建築故に、遠くからも見渡せる敷地故に、建築全体を瞬時に識別しようと思えばできてしまう。その建築が自ら主張するようなものならば、これ程わかりやすいことはない。思いがままに伝わるように表現できる。

ただ、何でも可視化できてしまう状況は建築をつまらなくする。すぐに全体がわからない、近寄らないとわからないことが必要になる。

"Boring architecture"
